Hey Barb...I agree 100%..some of my best clients are the ones where I have built up a strong relationship with HR. Good HR professionals understand that building a relationship with good recruiters can only make them look good

Whether HR becomes a friend or foe, depends on how you interact with them. Most HR Professionals are under extreme pressure to attrach top talent for their company. You need to prove to them that you understand your job is to make them "look good" by presenting the "hidden market" of candidates. (those who are currently working, but will make a change for the right opportunity) These are candidates who do not have their resume listed on job boards or the Internet. The role of the HR Professional has been changing over the past few years. Some of the greatest challenges being faced by our clients in addition to attracting top talent are Talent Management and Retention. Those responsibilities are being handled by HR and they are truly become strategic partners with Corporate Leadership! I feel our job is to become a TRUSTED ADVISOR to the HR Professionals as well as the Corporate Executives we represent. You can't have the attitude that you are being sent "DOWN" to HR. HR Professionals can often "make or break" your ability to fill their job openings! Align yourself, treat them with respect, learn their Hot Buttons and this person can enhance your production! Are there some HR PRofessionals that are difficult to work with - of course there are! There are also some recruiters in our profession that are difficult! The key is you need to develop rapport with your contact and realize your job is to figure how WHO to send to them that will be hired. Your job is NOT to agree or disagree with what they say!
