Everyone says job boards are dying – is it true?

A recurrent theme in blog posts and Tweets is that job boards are dying. Usually this is coupled with a prediction that they’ll be replaced by social media or Google. The popularity of this subject, in turn, spawns two questions:

  1. Why is this such a popular topic?

  2. Are job boards really dying?

February's online recruiting news

February's online recruiting news roundup is live.

I'd say the biggest news this time is not in print. The big news is that job boards are getting busier and our revenue is stable or growing. Usually, we have a better sense for where the economy is going than the economists, so I'd say look for positive news coming out in the next couple months.

Does social media eliminate the need for job boards?

For the past 15 years, job boards have been a standard part of the job seeker and employer ‘tool kit’. And why not?: job boards have proved to be an efficient way for job seekers to locate hiring companies, apply for jobs, and get a resume in front of potential employers.

Job search 2010 -- prove it!

As devastating as this recession has been for the laid-off and unemployed, it has also been a gut wrenching experience for many small business owners (recruiters) including the author. American entrepreneurs have learned some hard lessons that won't be forgotten. When I say the entire American business landscape has changed, it's because small business is not actually small. Just have a look at these numbers:… Continue

InternetRecruiting.us relaunched as OnlineRecruitingNews.com

12 months ago, I launched InternetRecruiting.us as a job board directory and invited job boards to post news there. It was an interesting experiment but didn't really fly. Whether or not you want to become a coop member, you will still be welcome to ma… Continue

Thanks for the comments Eric - we're rebuilding everything, bit by bit!

I have been reading your posts regularly and enjoy them. The public job board companies always seem like dogs when thew economy is hurting, but they tend to look like miracle workers on the rebound.
